Description

11 British Air Ministry duplicate prints annotated on the reverse by 430661 Warrant Officer (WO) Geoffrey Vernon Leicester in the Royal Australian Air Force. The originals of these images are held in the collection of the Imperial War Museum. Print numbers C 5031, C 4472, C 5178, C4657, 5153(?), CH 12341, CH 6421, CL2772, C 5075, C 4919 and C119. 6 other images relating to the service of WO Leicester. WO Leicester enlisted for service on 26 February 1943 from Melbourne, Victoria. During the last two years of the war, he served with the Royal Air Force’s elite Pathfinder force in 156 Squadron (8 Group Pathfinder), flying Vickers Wellingtons and subsequently Avro Lancasters. The Pathfinder Force played a major role in Bomber Command’s European offensive as target-marking squadrons. They secured and marked areas with incendiary bombs and flares to increase the accuracy of bomber squadrons. Warrant Officer Leicester was discharged on 3 November 1945.
