Operation Rats DPR/TV/511
In the lines of the 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment, at Nui Dat there is ceaseless vigilance against possible Viet Cong attack. But it is not all war in the Battalion, and the soldiers find many ways to raise a laugh and lift the spirit. Recently these soldiers of Bravo Company held a rat catching competition and 128 rats later there was a dead heat between Pte. Ron Woolley of Ryde, NSW and Pte. John Goode of Wollongong, NSW. Sergeant Kevin Brady of Stafford Heights, Brisbane used a pack of cards to decide the winner - Private Woolley, who drew a king against Private Goodes' two. The champion was presented with a small trophy donated by Mrs Bev McLoud of Fairy Meadow, NSW, wife of a national serviceman who was formerly with the Battalion, but is now serving with another unit. Private Goodes also received a trophy, a small drinking mug and used it to drink the health of his mates.
