Lay, Mavis Jean (Lieutenant, b.1922 - d.2016)
Collection relating to the British Commonwealth Occupation Forces service of VFX121878 Mavis Jean Lay, Australian Army Medical Women's Service, Japan, 1947-1953.
Collection consists of four documents: a certificate of service for Lay, a certificate of appointment by Governor-General William McKell, a letter from Air Vice Marshal Frank Bladin to Lay (his secretary) and a typed letter of reference from Lieutenant General William Bridgeford regarding Lay's work with the BCOF. Also included in the collection is a postal tube associated with the certificate of appointment. Lay worked as a secretary to several Chiefs of Staff and Commanders-in-Chief during the BCOF period in Japan (Kure, Eta Jima and Tokyo) and during the Korean War she was stationed in Seoul for two weeks. She was discharged in 1953.
