Description

Preliminary works have just commenced as workmen prepare the site for the construction of the extensions to the AWM main building undertaken between 1968 and 1970. In the foreground workmen are digging holes, scaffolding is being constructed so the sandstone cladding can be removed from the existing brick walls, that will eventually be incorporated into the extension of the building, and rubble is visible where foundations are being dug for the extension to this wing of the building. The barrel and roof from the Amiens Gun and the Japanese midget submarine are still in situ. This is one of a series of photographs taken on a regular basis to record progress of the work.
