Female Relatives Badge : Mrs Agatha Kermode
Female Relative badge. Circular badge with a wreath surmounted by a King's Crown. Inside is a map of Australian surrounded by another wreath and the words 'TO THE WOMEN OF AUSTRALIA'. A bar with two stars is suspended from the main body. The stars represent the number of relatives involved in the war effort. The reverse is impressed with the serial number 'N16661' and the maker's details.
Worn by Mrs Agatha Kermode in recognition of the service of her two sons, S/7636 Able Seaman John Cameron Kermode and S/9436 Able Seaman Ronald Graham Kermode.
John Cameron Kermode was born on 30 October 1925 and enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy on 18 January 1943. He served aboard HMAS Australia and was wounded during the Battle of Leyte Gulf when a Japanese kamikaze aircraft crashed into the port side of Australia, killing 30 crew and wounding 64. The Commanding Officer, Captain Dechaineux, was killed.
Ronald Graham Kermode, born 6 April 1927, enlisted on 30 June 1944 and served at HMAS Penguin naval base.
