Portrait of 381 Jephthah 'Jeff' Jonson, Fourth Imperial Contingent
Description
Studio portrait of 381 Private Jephthah (Jeff) Jonson, 4th (Imperial) Contingent, Victoria. The Contingent departed from Melbourne on 1 May 1900 aboard the Victorian, arriving at Beira on 23 May. He was killed in action on 18 February 1901 at Hartebeestfontein, South Africa. The contingent comprised 31 officers (and two supernumeraries), 598 other ranks, with 778 horses and 11 wagons. One Officer and 22 others were killed or died from this contingent.
