Night attack by 1 & 6 Groups Pfzorheim 23 February 1945 (Bomber Command Operational Film No 261)
Description
RAF Bomber Command Operation film of the night raid on Pfzorheim, Germany by Lancasters and Mosquitoes of 1, 6 and 8 Groups. This raid was the first area bombing carried out on Pforzheim and resulted in 83 per cent of the town being destroyed and the death of over 17,000 of the town's inhabitants. The last Victoria Cross awarded to a member of Bomber Command was won on this raid. The recipient (posthumously) was Captain Edwin E Swales DFC a South African serving with No 582 Squadron in Group 8.
