Curby, Suzanne (Federal Agent)
Collection relating to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) service of Federal Agent Suzanne (Sue) Curby, Australian Federal Police, 2006.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a typed 19-page travel journal Curby maintained while deployed to the Solomon Islands from 19 January to 11 May 2006 to exhume and repatriate the bodies of murder victims. Curby writes of her movements to remote villages on the Weather Coast and Guadalcanal, her interactions with villagers and the other police officers, negotiations with families to exhume loved ones, collecting forensic evidence, severe weather conditions affecting their work, the different treatment she experienced as a (white) female police officer, filming a segment on the exhumations for SBS, and of a violent riot and fire in Honiara. The journal is interspersed by photographs that directly relate to people and events mentioned in the text.
