Medical Circus
Description
Original cartoon layout for a wall mural titled 'Medical Circus' for the Col Jacobs military hospital in Bonegilla. The mural features medical instruments and germs with human qualities. The design includes two friezes one title 'Ballet de Syringes' and the other 'Dance of Germs'. Pte E H Marcuse worked on these murals with fellow soldier artist Pte J Schwarcz.
The mural designs were published in the magazine 'Australian Home beautiful' on December 1942, pg 21. Some of the cartoon characters were inspired by medical cartoon characters in Marcuse's sketchbook 'Vanbro Exercise Book, Army Days Approx. Early 40's'.
