Notebook of James Stuart Leslie Ross
Description
Diary relating to the First World War service of 589 Lieutenant James Stuart Leslie Ross, 2nd Squadron, Australian Flying Corps.
Ross’ diary contains brief, irregular entries dated between 1 January and 30 December 1917. In it, Ross records some of his experiences as a pilot in training in England, including attending lectures, undertaking exams, leisure activities, being posted to his first Squadron, doing his first solo flight, writing and receiving letters from home, graduation, a short period of leave in London, recovering from his frostbitten face, getting lost in fog, and crash landing (without injury). This diary also contains lists of addresses of Ross’ family and friends in the United Kingdom.
