Description

Helen McNulty was twelve when the war ended. She recalls her experiences during the war years, especially the memories of friends who had brother that were in POW camps, one of which were crucified. Her father was too old to enlist in the war, and her brother too young. She talks about anti-Japanese propaganda posters, air raid drills and false alarms. She speaks about air raid bags issued to children and what they contained. She also discusses the suspicion of anyone who may have been German or Japanese. She also talks about the effects of rationing and fundraising for the Red Cross. She also briefly talks about the influence of war films.
