Oral history interview with Petty Officer Tricia Muller of the Royal Australian Navy, a Physical Training Instructor (PTI) with the Multinational Force and Observer group (MFO) in 2019. Interview by Dr Aaron Pegram of the Australian War Memorial on Commonwealth Patio at South Camp, Sharm-El-Sheik, Arab Republic of Egypt, 9 November 2019. Topics include: growing up on Bribie Island QLD, naval cadets and motivation for enlisting in the RAN as a PTI, initial training as a Combat Systems Operator – Mine Warfare, deployments to the Solomon Islands on HMAS Parramatta (2003) and HMAS Diamantina (2004), transfer and retraining as a PTI, deployment to the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO) on HMAS Melbourne (2010-11), lessons learnt and subsequent military career up to MFO deployment (2019). Selection and training, overview to role as Force PTI, working within an multinational environment, sport as a good unifier for teamwork and for morale, aspirations for the duration of deployment (MFO Amazing Race and Israel marathon), morale and mental health aspects of physical and wellness training, routine on base, good nutrition and good sleep practices, instilling healthy habits during deployment influences the effectiveness of individuals on deployment, facilities and resources at MFO South Camp, lessons learnt and their future application, thoughts on the Australian War Memorial and future displays.
