Flight Lieutenant H G Winders of Coolangatta, Qld (left), who gave surfboard riding exhibitions at Newquay, Cornwall, with Miss Joy Nichols of London (centre) and Mrs Esme Sanderson, of London. Surf riding and swimming, a rare sport in England, attracted keen interest during a two day aquatic carnival by RAAF personnel on leave at an ACF leave hostel at Newquay from 7 July to 9 July 1945.
