Description

Papers relating to the Second World War service of QX17263 Sergeant Ronald Wilson Hall, 2/10 Field Regiment.

This file contains a typescript carbon copy of "Selerang Special Order of the Day No. 3," 4 September 1942, issued by Colonel E. B. Holmes, the officer commanding British and Australian Troops at Changi, relating to the signing of a 'Promise not to escape certificate'. For humanitarian reasons, the order instructed troops to sign the document but made clear that all signatures would effectively be made under the duress imposed by the Imperial Japanese Army.

A statement signed by former Sgt. Hall on 1 April 1946 describing the mistreatment of allied prisoners of war by Japanese military personnel at Hintok Camp, No. 4 Group, Thailand, during May 1943 - June 1943; army medical and pay records; and two photographs of a Field Artillery piece with caisson are also included.
