All the fine young men: My husband's father, Fred, was 18 when he joined the RAAF
This work illuminates how great events in history, such as war, affect the intimate and private parts of a family's history. It contains two sections: screen printed images on paper in the background, and a glass layer over the top with text etched into the glass using graphite. The screen printed background includes an arrangement of two portrait-style photographs in the upper left corner of a woman and a man in uniform, a snapshot in the lower right corner of a soldier outside his tent, a RAAF Statement of Service in the upper right corner, and a map of Borneo in the lower centre. In the lower left corner images of an Australian World War II War Medal, an Australian Service Medal from World War II and a Pacific Star Medal are screen printed. The glass overlay contains a story of the artist's father-in-law, and his role in the RAAF during the Second World War and later his disagreement with Australia's involvement in the Vietnam War.
