Description
Letters and telegrams from Hann of 1st Reinforcements, 9th Field Company Engineers to family during period of August 1916 to June 1919. Mentions illness on troopship (including Meningitis), being billeted out in England, participation in Sapper's course and riding and driving school, sightseeing in London, Paris, and Scotland. Frequent assurances of good health. Describes activities in France and Belgium, preparations for attack at Messines Ridge, and being formed into Divisional Pack Company carrying food and supplies to forward positions by pack mules. Also mentions sporting competitions, end of war, peacetime Christmas, and repatriation. Includes photographs of Hann and fellow soldiers.
