The first duty of this Labor Government...
Depicts a cartoon of the Australian Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam, on the left hand side, recalling his withdrawal of troops from Vietnam and on the right hand side, the prime Minister, Bob Hawke, commenting on committing Australian troops to the Gulf. This satirical cartoon was created by Sean Leahy in response to the First Gulf War (1990-1991).Sean Leahy became the youngest, regularly published cartoonist on an Australian daily newspaper in 1975 when he was 17 years old. He began his career as a cartoonist for the 'West Australian' newspaper and for 8 years studied graphic design and completed a press artist's cadetship at the 'West Australian' . In 1983 he moved to Queensland to draw for 'The Sun' and the 'Sunday Sun'. His work has also appeared in the 'Courier-Mail', 'The Australian', the 'Bulletin' and in several overseas cartoon exhibitions and newspapers, such as the 'LA Times'.
