Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX28610 Captain Donald Morrison, 2/29 Battalion AIF, 1940-1945.

Wallet 1 of 1 - Collection contains a spiral bound typed transcription of diaries kept by Donald Norman Irving Morrison whilst serving with the 2/29 Battalion AIF. Known as Norman, he enlisted on 24 June 1940 as VX28610 Captain (Capt) Donald Morrison and in February 1942 became a prisoner of war (POW) of the Japanese in Changi POW camp. The bound typescript is titled 'History of B Company 2/29 Battalion. From: Seymour - Bathurst to Singapore 1941-1945' and was transcribed and compiled by Mr David Morrison, the son of Capt Morrison. The typscript is a compilation of experiences written by Capt Morrison, from original diaries kept by him at the time, and is written in sections titled 'Beer Company' (covering the period from 22 Nov 1940 to 17 Feb 1942), 'Malayan Diary' and 'POW life: 1942-1945'. Includes appendices containing scans of original related documents such as handmade menus and Xmas cards, a list of dates important in the military life of Capt Morrison, hand drawn maps and photographs. A digital copy of the transcript compilation was also supplied with the hard copy.

The transcript was made in 2011.
