Description

Collection relating to the Operation Salam service of Captain (later Colonel) Marcus Conrad Fielding, United Nations Mine Clearance Training Team (UNMCTT), Afghanistan, 1992.

Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of an identification card, newspaper articles, documents and maps related to Fielding's deployment on Operation Salam with the UNMCTT in Afghanistan in 1992. The collection includes Fielding's United Nations identification card, the United Nations "Operation Salam: Mine Clearance Programme Afghanistan, 1992" booklet with details on the achievements of the UNMCTT in 1991 and background to the program and its objectives, copies of two dinner menus from a regimental dining in and a Waterloo Dinner in Peshawar and Islamabad, respectively, and a copy of the proclamation by the Mujahideen to the citizens of Kabul on 24 April 1992. The collection also includes an original weapons log book used by the Kabul Army, scanned maps of the Greater Middle East, and copies of newspaper articles from the Review, Courier Mail, and Australian Magazine on the situation in Afghanistan and the work of the Australian contingent to the UNMCTT.
