Collection relating to the Second World War service of 22622 Bandsman Charles Desmond Tyler, HMAS Sydney (II), Royal Australian Navy, Australia, Indian Ocean, and Mediterranean Sea, 1940-1941.
Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one copy of a diary of Bandsman Tyler, with entries dated between 29 May 1940 and 5 February 1941. In his diary, Bandsman Tyler writes about his experiences, including embarkation, training, leave, hearing news of the war, service in the Mediterranean Sea, the sinking of the Bartolomeo Colleoni by the HMAS Sydney on 19 July 1940, and the return to Australia. This diary also includes copies of newspaper clippings pertaining to the HMAS Sydney (II) and a copy of the HMAS Sydney (II) 1940 Christmas Day menu.
