Description
The destroyer HMAS Waterhen lists dangerously after being attacked and crippled by German dive bombers off the port of Salum in Egypt. The ship's crew together with troops that she had been carrying to the besieged city of Tobruk are preparing to board the British destroyer HMS Defender (not in view), which is about to pull alongside. HMAS Waterhen was one of several Australian ships that operated a shuttle service between Tobruk and various ports in Egypt, a service that became known as the Tobruk ferry or Tobruk taxi. The ship sank the following day, 1941-06-30.
