Description
A barrage balloon on loan from the US 7th Air Force about to go aloft from the 1st Australian Task Force (ATF) base. The balloon has a PRC25 radio communications set tethered beneath it. The aim in attaching the radio equipment to the balloon was to increase the distance over which communications could be maintained with Special Air Services (SAS) units operating in the field. The method was devised by the Field Operational Research Section (FORS).
