Collection relating to the Second World War service of QX6470 Captain Alexander Fraser, 1 Independent Company, Second Australian Imperial Force, Japan, 1943.
Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one letter from Captain Fraser to his friend, Miss Joyce Hill, dated May 1943. In his letter, written from Zentsuji Prisoner of War Camp in Japan, Captain Fraser writes about the limit on letters he was able to send, and asking his sweetheart Marion to suspend decisions about her future life until he returned. He also sends his love to friends and family at home.
Captain Alexander Fraser enlisted to the Second Australian Imperial Force on 28 November 1940. He was second in command of 1 Independent Company, and served in New Britain, New Guinea. In early 1942, Captain Fraser was captured as a prisoner of war of the Japanese. He was interned at Zentsuji Prisoner of War Camp in Japan. After the war, Captain Fraser returned to Australia and was discharged on 29 November 1945.
