Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal : Colour Sergeant G E Mitchell, Devon Regiment
Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, Queen Victoria, third type with the small letters reverse. The recipients number, rank name and regiment are engraved on the edge. Obverse: A trophy of arms with the royal arms within an oval in the centre. Reverse: The words for LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT' on four lines. The medal is fitted with a swivel scroll suspender. A small piece of plain 32 mm crimson ribbon is detached from the medal.
Awarded for eighteen years good conduct in the ranks. George Edward Mitchell was born 1 October 1862. He served for 19 years 251 days in the ranks and 3 years 103 days as a Warrant Officer. He was commissioned Lieutenant Quartermaster on 20 September 1902, and honorary Captain (Quartermaster) on 20 September 1912. He retired from the Devonshire Regiment on 15 August 1914 after nearly 33 years service.
