Silver shooting medallion - Bengal Presidency Rifle Association. Engraved with the recipients details on the edge. Obverse: A Bengal lion statant facing left on a plinth inscribed 'N.I.R.A.' (Northern India Rifle Association) over '1863-86' within a rectangle. Makers name 'PINCHES LONDON' at the base. Reverse: In the centre a blank rectangular panel with 'BENGAL PRESIDENCY' above and RIFLE ASSOCIATION' below. A laurel wreath around the circumference.
Won by Colour Sergeant Mitchell for the 'Sergeants Aggregate' competition in April 1897. George Edward Mitchell was born 1 October 1862. He served for 19 years 251 days in the ranks and 3 years 103 days as a Warrant Officer. He was commissioned Lieutenant Quartermaster on 20 September 1902, and honorary Captain (Quartermaster) on 20 September 1912. He retired from the Devonshire Regiment on 15 August 1914 after nearly 33 years service.
