Visit of Senator to 1 ATF DPR/TV/939
Two prominent Vietnamese Parliamentarians visited First ATF at Nui Dat, Phuoc Tuy province, to see first-hand the Australian Army Base. They are Senator Ton That Dinh, Chairman of the Vietnamese Senate Armed Forces Committee, accompanied by Mr Hugh Dunn, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Saigon. They arrived by Wessex helicopter to be greeted by the Task Force Commander, Brigadier Ron Hughes of Brisbane, Qld. Following a brief given by Brig Hughes on the operational responsibilities of the Australian Force, they made a ground tour of the Nui Dat base in a Landrover. After further discussions, they had lunch with Brig Hughes and HQ staff officers at the Task Force HQ Mess. They then made an aerial tour of the base and surrounding countryside before returning to Saigon. Senator Dinh is a retired Lt Gen and Mr Thy is a former Army Major. (Also identified: Duon Van Thuy; Major John Taylor of Brisbane, Qld.)
