King's South Africa Medal : Lieutenant E S de Pass, Imperial Yeomanry
King's South Africa Medal with clasps 'SOUTH AFRICA 1901' and 'SOUTH AFRICA 1902'. Engraved around edge with recipient's details. Obverse: The bust of King Edward VII and the legend 'EDWARDVS VII REX IMPERATOR'. Reverse: Britannia with a flag in her left hand holding out a laurel wreath towards an advancing party of soldiers. In the background are two warships. The wreath in Britannia's hand points to the letter 'F' in the word 'AFRICA'. Around the top are the words 'SOUTH AFRICA'. The medal is fitted with a straight suspender and two rectangular date bars.
Awarded for sevice in South frica during 1901 and 1902. Ernest Simon de Pass served in the Boer War as a Quartermaster Sergeant and later a Lieutenant with the 11th Imperial Yeomanry. As 324 Private E S de Pass he served with B Company, New South Wales Infantry, in the New South Wales Sudan Contingent of 1885. He stated that he was a silver refiner who had been born in London. He was the only Jewish member of the contingent.
