Vietnam concert party DPR/TV/1148
Seven members of a Government sponsored concert party arrive at an Australian fire support base in southern Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. The Sydney entertainers became one of the first groups to visit Australian troops on operations in Vietnam. The party, consisting of vocalists Jillian Smith and Margaret Keller, compere Eddie Mendoza, balancing and juggling duo Anne and Clive Latah, organist Adrian Dangerfield and drummer Laurie Thompson, made a half hour stop and saw the 105mm howitzers from 101st Field Battery in action. The group walked around the base perimeter to meet the soldiers and put on impromptu concerts. The entertainers were on their way to Vung Tau having entertained a group of more than 1000 diggers at Nui Dat's Luscombe Bowl. Also identified: 6RAR's RSM WO1 J. A. Cruickshank of Everton Park, Qld.
