Interview with Officer Commanding 17 Construction Squadron DPR/TV/1159
Work commenced this week on a community centre for troops serving at the Task Force base at Nui Dat. Designed by Royal Australian Engineers architects in Vietnam, the Centre will resemble a small regional shopping centre of the type now appearing in the suburbs of Australian capital cities. The Officer-in-Charge of the 17th Engineer Construction Squadron, Major John Wertheimer of Kenmore, Qld, is directing the project and has set August 31 as the target for the opening of the centre. [Questions 1. John, what facilities are you providing for the soldiers? 2. Do you think there is a demand for the Centre? 3. What provisions are you making for transporting soldiers to the centre from the outlying units? 4. What will happen to the centre after the Australians withdraw from Vietnam?]
