Boy's home Vietnam style DPR/TV/1347
Three miles from the sprawling Australian logistics base at Vung Tau in South Vietnam, 40 Vietnamese orphan boys who live in a Roman Catholic orphanage are the target for some special help from Australian troops of the 110th Signals Squadron. The soldiers visit often to see the boys, and they usually bring food, clothing and eating utensils. On this visit three soldiers have come to help the boys clear some land for banana tree and garden planting. 57092 Lieutenant Geoffrey Leslie (Geoff) Taylor of Perth, WA, talks to the supervisor about the days work programme. Backs bend as boys and soldiers hack into the undergrowth, clear weeds and start construction of some rick terracing. The orphanage, which houses boys between six and seventeen years of age, has been helped by soldiers of the Signals Squadron for more than a year. Slowly, under the soldiers' guidance, improvements are being made in hygiene control, and other help is being given on crop planting and elementary house building, and first aid...a helping hand from Australia. Also identified: Supervisor Ha Van Shern.
