Description

Portrait of Miss Peace Harber, a railway employee, at Flinders Street Railway Station. The uniform worn was originally in a colour only used by women (slate blue), however the male uniforms had recently been changed to also use the same colours.

This image is one of a series documenting work being completed by Miss Harber. The photographer notes include a reference that she “had 3 ½ years service with the Railways, is one of the original members of this service. In the following series of pictures she is shown working with her fellow workers and performing every task allotted to the girls in the course of duty”. The photographer also documents that Miss Harber is one of the first women railway employees.
