Description
General Krasnoff (centre, in fur hat), the viceroy or Ataman of the Don Cossacks, meets members of the Allied Mission to Russia in the capital of the Don Republic. In the background crowds of people are lined up on the cathedral steps. Identified left to right, front row: two unidentified French officers; the Russian Admiral Kononoff (turned to one side); Lieutenant John Gordon Boyd of the Royal Australian Naval Reserve; Engineer Lieutenant Commander George William Bloomfield. The Mission sought to investigate the situation of the Don Cossacks, who were defending their country in the eastern corner of the Ukraine against the Bolsheviks.
