Collection relating to the Second World War service of 34929 Leading Aircraftsman Lionel Arthur Walker, Royal Australian Air Force and Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve, Australia, 1943 – 1948.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Contains three folders of material relating to the service of Leading Aircraftsman Walker, and the surrender of the Japanese in 1945.

Folder 1 of 3 consists of 11 items relating to the service of Leading Aircraftsman Walker, dated 1944 to 1946. Items include certificates of appointments, demobilisation, service and discharge, financial claims, driver’s license, identity card, air travel passes and official letters.

Folder 2 of 3 consists of three items relating to Leading Aircraftsman Walker’s service with the Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve, dated 1944 to 1945. Items include:

1x Torokina Times troopship serial, Volume 2, Number 92, dated 1 April 1944. This Australian newspaper includes various articles and stories relating to the Allies troops and civilians.
1x Thanksgiving dinner menu, dated 1944. This menu relates to the First Marine Aircraft Wing, Southwest Pacific.
1x Document written by unknown servicemen, c1945. This document includes stories of the Allies successful operations and battles in the Pacific with the Japanese.

Folder 3 of 3 consists of 9 items relating to the surrender of the Japanese, and subsequent culmination of the Second World War, dated August 1945. Items include various leaflets distributed by the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) written in Japanese and Pidgin [with associated English translation], a surrendering pass issued to Japanese soldiers and confidential letter contextualising the FELO propaganda leaflet distribution.
