Identified standing left to right: 6306 Private (Pte) William Nelson, 16th Battalion from Leonora, WA; 4229 Pte Roland George Webb, 26th Battalion from Brisbane, QLD; 1980 Pte David Victor Mitchell, 14th Battalion from Lilydale, VIC; 1656 Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Edward Hillary Dowd, 48th Battalion from Terowie, SA; 5991 Pte Ernest Henry Barnes, 14th Battalion from Geelong VIC; 6014 Pte Albert Adolph Dusenberg, 16th Battalion from Perth, WA; seated left to right: 79 Pte Raymond Wallace Bisset (Bissett), 23rd Battalion from Melbourne, VIC; 5084 Corporal (Cpl) Leslie Augustus Foster, 13th Battalion from Sydney, NSW; 6311 Pte Percy Cornelius O'Sullivan, 16th Battalion from Northam, WA. Pte Nelson enlisted on 17 August 1914 and embarked for overseas on 13 January 1916 aboard HMAT Suffolk. He was captured at Riencourt, France on 11 April 1917 and held as a POW until he was repatriated to England in November 1918. He embarked to return to Australia on 5 March 1919 and was killed in a sawmill accident on 24 January 1922. Pte Webb aged 20 enlisted on 23 September 1915 and embarked for overseas on 28 March 1916 aboard HMAT Commonwealth. He was reported missing on 26 March 1917 and later confirmed as a POW. He was repatriated to England in November 1918 and embarked to return to Australia in March 1919. Pte Mitchell aged 18 enlisted on 19 January 1915 and embarked for overseas on 17 April 1915 aboard HMAT Hororata. After serving at Gallipoli, he was captured at Riencourt, France on 11 April 1917. He was repatriated to England on 28 November 1918 and embarked to return to Australia on 9 February 1919. L/Cpl Dowd aged 26 enlisted on 14 March 1915 and embarked for overseas on 11 April 1915 aboard HMAT Aeneas. He was reported wounded and missing in France on 11 April 1917. He embarked to return to Australia on 3 March 1919. Pte Barnes aged 18 enlisted on 18 April 1916 and embarked for overseas on 1 August 1916 aboard HMAT Miltiades. He was reported missing on 11 April 1917. He embarked to return to Australia on 5 March 1919. Pte Dusenberg aged 19 enlisted on 4 March 1916 and embarked for overseas on 7 August 1916 aboard HMAT Miltiades. He was reported missing on 11 April 1917, repatriated to England on 6 December 1918 and embarked to return to Australia on 9 August 1919. Pte Bisset aged 19 enlisted on 1 March 1915 and embarked for overseas on 10 May 1915 aboard HMAT Euripides. He was wounded and captured at Lagnicourt, France on 28 March 1917, repatriated to England on 23 November 1918 and embarked to return to Australia on 5 March 1919. Cpl Foster aged 28 enlisted on 29 December 1915 and embarked for overseas on 31 March 1916 aboard HMAT Star of Victoria. He was reported missing on 11 April 1917, repatriated to England on 28 November 1918 and embarked to return to Australia on 5 March 1919. Pte O'Sullivan aged 18 enlisted on 3 April 1916 and embarked for overseas on 13 October 1916 aboard HMAT Suffolk. He was captured at Bullecourt, France on 11 April 1917 and held in Germany until repatriated to Holland on 7 May 1918. He arrived in England on 22 November 1918 and embarked to return to Australia on 5 March 1919. One of a series of over 400 photographs sent by Australian POWs in German camps to Miss M. E.
