Description
Butterworth, Malaysia. c.1966-07-25. Leading Aircraftman John Eivers of Villawood, NSW, is shown the contents of an Australian Red Cross package while sitting on his bed in No. 4 RAAF Hospital. He is watched by Red Cross official Marie C. Hunter (later Boyle) (centre) serving with the 8th Field Ambulance and Section Officer Lorraine Chateney, RAAF nursing sister. The personal kit containing pyjamas, shaving cream, writing paper and toothpaste, was given to patients who did not have personal gear when admitted to hospital. Mrs Hunter is holding a woollen sweater lent by the Red Cross to medevacs (patients evacuated in C130 Hercules aircraft) travelling from tropical areas of South East Asia to hospitals in Australia.
