Group portrait of members of the band of the 30th Battalion with their musical instruments prior to embarkation. Identified are Sergeant Leslie Wellings, bandmaster (seated in the front row fourth from the left); 1190 Private (Pte) Robert Rambert Buik (second back row, third from the right with his cornet); and 1100 Pte Percy Lawson (front left, seated on the ground). Other members of the band (positions unknown) are: Lance Sergeant C J Davis; Pte J Archer; Pte F J Brennan; Pte E A Colley; Pte P Cotterill; ; Pte F D Croft; Pte C J Cryer; Pte W D Eyles; Pte F Erikson; Pte C B Hadfield; Pte L J Hough; Pte C J Johnson; Pte F R Knight; Pte P L Lawson; Pte J K Lewis; Pte W L McRoberts; Pte C J May; Pte F V Pearse; Pte C W Peters; Pte H H Sharpe; Pte A E Stewart; Pte J Stone; Pte W C Upton and Pte H Williamson.
