Livingstone, NT. 1944-12. Group Captain Clive (Killer) Robertson Caldwell DFC and Bar, DSO, No. 80 Fighter Wing RAAF, inspecting his Spitfire Mk VII aircraft, serial no. A58-484. Caldwell was Australia's leading fighter ace for the Second World War. This was taken just prior to takeoff for Morotai, Mollucas via Merauke, New Guinea where No. 80 Fighter Wing was transferred to 1st Tactical Air Force. The aircraft has the letters "CR-C" painted on the side. Note the 90 gallon belly tank.
