Description
South Melbourne, Vic. c. 1944. Three women employed at the Smith & Searle's factory stand together beside a piece of large machinery. The factory was engaged in the manufacture of parts, some high precision, for munitions projects and also parts for fruit canning machinery. It was owned, managed and operated by women with only one male employee. (This image appears on page 208 of the album presented to Dr Edith Summerskill housed in the AWM Archive Store)
