Villawood, NSW. c. 1944. Two women operate a machine (detoluator) at the Commonwealth Explosives Factory. The machine was probably involved in the production of nitric acid for use in explosives manufacture. The original caption reads `The left hand operative is controlling the temperature in the Detolulator tin which acidic MNT is converted into DNT. The right hand operative is adding a pre-determined quantity of nitric acid to the charge in the nitrating vessel'. (This image appears on page 224 of the album presented to Dr Edith Summerskill housed in the AWM Archive Store)
