Description

Memoirs of service with AASC. Describes enlistment in 1940, joining 7 Division Supply, column training, transport on HMT `Queen Mary', leave in Palestine, and supply column to Egypt. Haslam was in Tobruk for the Easter attack by Rommel, mentions air raids, conditions, work as clerk with HQ Assistant Director of Supply and Transport. Leaves in July on board HMT Defender, works in Alexandria with Base Post Office, then AIF Details, Provost Corps, and on to Tel-el-Kebier to carry out truck salvage. Also mentions battle of El Alamein in October 1942. Describes return to Australia, experiences in New Guinea (particularly Port Moresby and Buna), US troops, and discharge from army. Separate two page account of convoy from Barbara to Gazala in February 1941, via Amyria, Sidi Barrani and Tobruk.
