Description
Anzac Cove, Gallipoli. 1915-12-15. The barrel of a 4.7 inch naval gun after it was blown up in preparation for the evacuation (a photograph of the barrel minutes before is at P02226.028). The gun had been on HMS Powerful, had been used in the Boer War and brought to Gallipoli in 1915. The barrel is now in the collection of the Australian War Memorial. The destruction operation was undertaken by a party including Sergeant Cyril Lawrence, No. 2 Field Company, Australian Engineers. (Original housed in AWM Archive Store)
