History / Summary

Daniel Weir enlisted in the First AIF at Melbourne, Victoria on 20 July 1915, understating his age by some 3 years. He was posted as Australian Army Medical Corps reinforcement and embarked for overseas service in Sydney on 29 March 1916. On 6 May he joined the 15th Australian Field Ambulance in Egypt before the unit moved to France in June as part of the 15th Australian Infantry Brigade.

In October 1917 Weir was admitted to hospital with bronchitis. Further investigation revealed that the 49 year old Weir had suffered typhoid 3 times in the past, had rheumatism in his arms and legs, had an enlarged heart and suffered emphysema. He returned to Australia and was discharged overage on 30 April 1918.
