Description

Edmonson speaks about his childhood and early education; being apprenticed to his father as a boot-maker; joining the RAN in 1942; training at Flinders Naval Depot as a stoker; joining HMAS Toowoomba in 1942; escorting convoys and carrying out anti-submarine patrols as part of the British Eastern Fleet in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf; refitting in Durban in early 1944 and joining other RAN corvettes in Colombo; returning to Fremantle for refit in December 1944; foreign service leave and family matters; rejoining Toowoomba at Manus and service in the Pacific, including Hong Kong; the end of the Second World War; transfer to HMAS Fremantle for return to Fremantle but the ship paying off in Melbourne; discharge and joining the family business; marriage and family; subsequent employment; being Controller of Parliament House Western Auatralia (WA); retirement and involvement with the Corvettes Association and the Naval Association in WA.
