Description
Collection relating to the service of Staff Nurse Eileen Mary Callaghan (NFX180289). The collection contains a recipe book compiled by Sister Callaghan and 14 letters and telegrams relating to Callaghan's internment as a prisoner of war of the Japanese. With other members of the AANS, she was captured by Japanese forces at Rabaul in January 1942 and spent three years in Japan as a POW. The majority of the correspondence is official and addressed to Callaghan's father. However, the collection also includes two letters from Staff Nurse Callaghan while a prisoner of war and three letter addressed to Mrs Callaghan from Daisy Keast, whose daughter was also a prisoner.
