Description
Gallipoli, Turkey, 1915. French soldiers, many with packs on their backs, take up position at Cape Helles. A long earthwork has been thrown up (centre), while behind it (right) a man is digging a trench or foxhole. A mattock lies on the ground in front of him. A machine gun wrapped in a protective cloth stands on a tripod (left). In the foreground are some dixies, with some other utensils resting in a wooden crate. Soldiers are pitching tents in the background.
