Description

El Mex, Egypt, 1915. A series of wickerwork huts (left) and tents (right) serve as quarters for officers of the 1st Divisional Train, Australian Army Service Corps (AASC). The hut at the front has a tarpaulin over it on which are written the words: 'No. 1 Co. H.Q. A.A.S.C.' The hut at rear is occupied by Captain Walter Ormond Stevenson. A soldier wearing a pith helmet in the midground (centre) has one foot up on a wooden box and may be cleaning his shoes. Blankets and clothing are hanging up on the tent behind him.
