Description
Gallipoli, Turkey, 1915. Soldiers at Cape Helles sit or stand near some packs, bags and a box with a huge pile of empty shell cases at rear (right), while above them rises a steep hill on which dugouts, well protected with walls of sandbags, have been built. Two soldiers wearing pith helmets (left) lead a horse along a temporary rail line that has been laid for transport purposes. Another soldier stands with a team of horses hitched to a wagon (right). A sign erected near the base of the hill (centre, right) reads: 'Royal Naval Division Art.'
