Samarra (Samarrah), Mesopotamia. c. 1917-07. Informal group portrait of four members of `E' Station, 1st Wireless Signal Squadron, Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force relaxing in their tent. One soldier is reading a newspaper while others drink from bottles and a mug. Note how the tent has been built over a dugout lined with sand bags to make conditions a little cooler during the summer months. An Arnott's biscuit tin sits in the background. (Donor E. Keast Burke)
