Bairnsdale, Vic. C. 1941. Autographed formal group portrait of Pilot Officers (PO), members of No. 20A class at Bairnsdale Navigation-Reconnaissance School. Left to right: back row: Eldin Moore, 408811 Ralph R. James (later Flying Officer), A. Cambridge, Spedding Smith, Jack Budd, D. McDougall. Middle row: R. Fethers, I. Hay, J. Rimes, C. Portway. Front row: J. Matthews, L. Hooper, W. DeSalis. All have successfully completed their initial pilot training (note the pilot's wings worn on their left shirt pockets). Flying Officer James was killed in action on 28 April 1943 piloting a No. 2 Squadron RAAF Hudson light bomber aircraft over the Arafura Sea. (original housed in AWM Archive Store) (Donor E.
