Description

Two Australian soldiers sitting on top of an M113A1 Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) loaded aboard HMAS Sydney which is anchored in Vung Tau Harbour. Identified from left: 42502 Corporal Neville Modystack, of Adelaide, SA, who served with the 4th/19th Prince of Wales's Light Horse/1 APC Troop (Trp) from May 1965 to June 1965, 1 APC Trp from July 1965 to April 1966, and 1 APC Squadron (Sqn) from April 1966 to May 1966; Probably 53210 Sergeant (Sgt) Robert Alexander 'Wally' Grieg of Geraldton, WA, who served with the Australian Logistics Support Company from May 1965 to September 1965, 1 APC Trp from September 1965 to April 1966 and 1 APC Sqn from April 1966 to May 1966. He completed a second tour of duty with A Sqn, 3 Cavalry Regiment (Cav Regt) from December 1968 to May 1969, B Sqn 3 Cav Regt from May 1969 to October 1969 and with Headquarters 1 Australian Task Force (HQ 1 ATF) from October 1969 to December 1969. Both men are wearing M1 pattern steel helmets with fitted string netting and Sgt Grieg is holding a 9mm Owen machine carbine.
